covid-19 update

Due to Coronavirus and national lockdown, all SODA groups have been disbanded for the foreseeable future, until it is safe for our members to meet again in accordance with government guidelines. Many of our members, as well as group leaders, are vulnerable due to age and/or disability, so it will be down to the discretion of the individual leaders to judge when they are comfortable to re-open the groups once the restrictions are lifted.

All group members are henceforth considered to be lone members until the groups are operational once more, and will be receiving their copies of the SODA Magazine individually in the post rather than distributed at group meetings as usual. We're still encouraging submissions to the magazine by email from individual members rather than group reports, so we'd love to hear and see what our members have been creating whilst self-isolating.The deadline for membership renewal, usually due at the beginning of April for group members, has been waived and a new date for fees to be paid will be set once lockdown has been lifted. In the meantime, membership will continue automatically despite the delay in payment of fees, although membership cards will not be sent out until payment has been received to avoid confusion.

Despite these changes, we are still welcoming new lone members, both permanent and temporary for those that wish to join a group once they re-open. Membership is £8 a year and we can accept payment by bank transfer or PayPal if you wish to pay now, but your safety is our priority so if you wish to post a cheque or would need to visit a bank then we encourage you to wait until lockdown is over.

Our Goals

Picture

ethos of inclusivity
& accessibility

We practice inclusion not exclusion so whether disabled or able-bodied, a professional artist or a complete beginner, all adults are welcome to join.
Picture

confidence building
& acceptance

Through creating an environment without judgement of ability or disability, our members grow in confidence and no longer feel overlooked or undervalued.
Picture

friendship & a sense
of Community

We strongly believe in fostering a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, with members that regularly enjoy day trips & outings as well as socialise together.
Picture

scope to establish YOUR artistic voice

By encouraging submissions of artwork to our tri-annual magazine and national & local exhibitions, our members are able to develop their identity as an artist.
Picture

opportunity to practice art skills

With groups that meet weekly or fortnightly, our members have plenty of time to improve their skills with group members & leaders on hand to provide advice.
Picture

access to tutorials
& demonstrations

Our groups regularly enjoy art tutorials and demonstrations from visiting professional artists or a group member that has particular expertise to share.
